“I’ve always felt that there was a similarity between the Plains Indians and the medieval English knights of the Round Table in all their regalia and horse trappings. I thought it would be interesting to do a painting showing that similarity.
“I then went one step further, showing them at twilight so the title would have a double meaning. The title came to me simultaneously with the idea for the painting. If I had called it ‘Prairie Knights’ and set it in the daytime, it just wouldn’t have worked. Also, the evening setting gives the painting a cool light that plays against the warm colors of the regalia.”
