The “Pride of the Cheyenne” are their children and in this painting, a Cheyenne woman proudly holding the baby in a cradleboard is depicted. The challenge was to include the busy and striking patterns of the baby’s cradleboard without distracing from the proud determination shown in the woman’s face. The dress was purposely kept simple instead of painting a traditionally elaborate Cheyenne dress.
